Frequently Asked Questions

Once I see a chiropractor how often do I need to
come back?
It varies for everyone, it just depends on how hard you are on your
body and how severe your condition is. My goal is to get you feeling
great as soon as possible and allow you to manage your symptoms at
home while I treat you. After we have taken care of the patient's
immediate problems, some patients then see me every month while
some are just once a year.
Do you treat babies?
I treat people from newborns to 90 years olds. Chiropractors have
been shown to be effective in treating cases of infantile colic, ear
infections, and torticollis. In the case of colic it can be due to
gastrointestinal upset, food sensitivities, or possibly due to spinal
trauma during birth which chiropractic can help with. With ear
infections the infant's ear canal is has a different shape and length
than the adults which makes it more difficult for the lymphatic system
to drain fluid from the ears. Soft adjusting and muscle work to the
upper back and neck can improve the drainage from the ears.
Can I see a chiropractor when I'm pregnant?
You can see a chiropractor when you're pregnant and I highly
recommend it. As the baby grows the added weight places more
stress to the pelvis while increasing the curve in the lower back
placing extra stress on the facet joints in the lumbar spine. Any
pre-exisiting problems can be exacerbated as the spine and pelvis are
taxed. On top of that, a woman's core abdominal musculature which
stabilizes the lower back and pelvis becomes overstretched and weak
thus making the lower back more prone to injury and pain. This is
why it is imperative to see your chiropractor both during and after
your pregnancy to improve core strength and reduce future episodes
after birth.
You just treat the neck and back right?
I can treat anything from head to toe including shoulders, elbows,
wrist, knees, and ankles. The muscle work and rehabilitation is very
effective on these areas when paired with joint manipulation. When
performed together, these techniques help to create proper balance
and proprioception in the joints along with improve muscular
coordination and strength.
What causes the sound made when I'm adjusted?
The sound is not your bones cracking or popping it is actually gas
being released into the joint space. When you are adjusted, the gas is
released in the joint and then is reabsorbed. Some techniques
produce an audible pop or crack, while other techniques with light
force have no sound at all.
Does it hurt to get adjusted?
People often have no pain from being adjusted. Usually patients feel
some relief immediately after being adjusted.
What can you do for headaches and migraines?
Headaches can be caused by many things and often can be related to
posture. By adjusting the upper part of the neck, performing muscle
work, and working with the patient on postural changes and home
stretches headaches improve to the point where patients either get
them much less to not at all. In the case of migraines the same sort of
treatment can be used on the patient along with some dietary
changes. Quite often the migraines are better after chiropractic care
where the patient doesn't get them as often or when they do
experience a migraine it is much less intense. The patient with
migraines may need to follow up with the chiropractor from time to
time when they feel a migraine coming on.
